FASHION WEEK BLOG LOVE: K IS FOR KANI

The lovely Connie from K is for Kani came up from Melbourne for MBFWA and it was so wonderful to have her backstage and at our show. For some snaps she took from the front row and her overview of the show, have a peak below and of course over at her blog on Fellt here.

Miss Unkon: The beautiful Miss Unkon SS 12/13 collection was a delight to see. Sorbet yellow, orange, pink and blue graced the runway in delicate pleats. The ornamental metal embellishments which lined these pieces fluttered along ever so perfectly as the models walked and seeing numerous versions of this metal hem throughout the runway - on skirts, tops and dresses really made me want to get my hands on one. Another thing that I noticed as being popular for the upcoming season was organza and embroidery. The beautiful white skirt with the embroidered floral applique really caught my eye. It's the perfect way to go for a bit of volume in a playful, fun way, whilst of course, still being able to keep things cool (literally) in such a lightweight fabric.

Oh and p.s - how cute is the headband Connie wore to our show!? Looks like you can buy one similar from her etsy store here.

Have a beautiful Monday miss unkon girls

The lovely Yenny from Studded Hearts flew up from Melbourne and Mandy from Oracle Fox traveled from QLD for MBFWA this year, and it was so so wonderful to have both of them and a few of our favorite bloggers backstage and front row at our show.

Some cute pics from the show in their eyes below.

Super cute dandelion tattoos drawn onto all the models by the ultimate Miss Unkon girl Becca Gilmartin, amazing makeup and body artist. They represent noticing the unexpected beauty in the everyday, and the happy growth that Miss Unkon has had over the last year, growing up a little! Photo by Yenny @ Studded Hearts blog.
Minx Nails created this amazing metalic mirror nail for our show and we just loved it. Photo by Mandy @ Oracle Fox, visiting us backstage before the show.

FASHION WEEK PRESS LOVE: VOGUE.COM TOP TRENDS

MBFWA 2012: Vogue's Top Five Trends

We know it's getting chilly outside and it's still a while to go before Spring, but after our show at MBFWA we are getting pretty excited about the Miss Unkon pieces that will fill our wardrobes come summer. With Vogue reporting on the top 5 trends to watch for, you can pick up on both the Brights and sheer skirting trend with the new collection. Some pretty images shot by Vogue from our show below, to get you excited!

From Romance Was Born’s Monday madness to Akira Isogowa’s Friday thrills, the week that was MBFWA 2012 took our breath away.

From the calibre of designers to the sheer number of international delegates strutting their stuff in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge, the buzz surrounding this year’s MBFWA was nothing short of gripping. Looking back at the week that was, we review the top five trends that materialised on the 2012 runway.

1. Print on print
Undoubtedly the most prolific trend to emerge from the week’s considerable talent, clashing prints appeared to be breeding backstage, from the pyjama-style prints that opened the week at Romance Was Born, though to the clashing Asian-style patterns Akira showcased on Friday. Geometric and floral varieties electrified the collections of Sara Phillips, Zimmermann and Jenny Kee.

2. Brights
Cobalt blue and tangerine reigned supreme in the collections shown by Oroton, Gary Bigeni, Ode To No One and Suboo, just to name a few. From burnt orange and inky blue through to fluoro coral and saturated ultramarine, this duo of hues certainly made its presence felt in every shade imaginable. The brighter, the better.

3. Peplums
Feminine, fun and decidedly fashion, peplums were seen in spades. From the youthful bent they enjoyed at By Johnny and Alice McCall through to the formal inclination they took at Toni Maticevski and Lisa Ho, these waisted thrills are sure to prove a strong trickle trend for 2012/13.

4. Sheer skirting
Transparent fabrics took centre stage at Kirrily Johnston, Miss Unkon and Christopher Esber. Re-imagined in sheer skirted layers, they flanked strong prints and textures by providing a softer edge and more modest hemline to otherwise abridged lengths.

5. White out
Whole ensembles cut, tailored and styled in white proved show pieces at Manning Cartell, Magdalena Velevska, Bec & Bridge and Watson X Watson. From achromic suiting to shorts, dresses and shirts, whole bleached-out outfits left a decisively summery and fresh feel in their wake.

FASHION WEEK PRESS LOVE: GET THE HAIR LOOK

MBFWA: Schwarzkopf for Miss Unkon on Style Icons online

Craig Smith for Schwarzkopf Professional

Craig Smith led a team of 14 super stylists in the creation of an embellished braid silhouette at the pastel fuelled Miss Unkon spring summer collection show.
Contrasting the romantic textures and graceful form of the collection, Craig Smith presented a look full of strength with a slight youth punk feel.
“I really wanted to explore the 'explosive creativity’ that underpins the essence of the current collection concept, whilst keeping in tune with the beautiful femininity that defines the core value of the brand,” said hair director, Craig Smith.
“I also wanted to reinforce the incredibly intricate metal detailing on the hemlines of some of the pieces, with the placement of the silver rings throughout the braid construction.”

“It was unreal to be back at Sydney Fashion Week and working with the Miss Unkon production team was awesome,” added Craig. “Whilst they are totally holistic in their approach in terms of the vision that they have for the show, they really allowed me to hold the creative hair reigns.”

Get the Look:

1. To create a strong foundation, prepare the hair with ample Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Grip Mousse, working through from just off the root area, through the mid lengths and ends. Fully blow dry and straighten.

2. Take an ear-to-ear section and draw the hair smoothly to the top of the head into a ponytail, securing with hat elastic.

3. Pull the remaining section to meet the origin of the first ponytail and secure, again with hat elastic. (By creating a ponytail in two sections, the hair stays a lot smoother, particularly with thicker hair types). Use hemming tape to camouflage the hat elastic.

4. Working from in front of the model, take various sized sections and braid the hair feeding the small silver ring embellishments through as the braid is constructed. Leave a ¾ cm ‘tail’ of unbraided hair and secure with hemming tape. Secure the shape of the ‘tail’ with Schwarzkopf Professional Silhouette Hairspray.

5. Secure the position of the hair coming forward with bobby pins, at the mid length. Then fold the hair back on itself and secure.

6. Using a colour brush, apply Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Aqua Slide Gel to smooth from the hairline to the origin of the ponytail.

7. Finish with a sprit of Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Sparkler.

MBFWA MISS UNKON FRONT ROW BLOGGER LOVE

Hello....what a week. What a month. So much to share, so much to tell!
There is just nothing quite like the month leading up to fashion week. It's surreal, fun, exciting and a time that is the most precious as the team comes together to create something that is out on a catwalk for all to see. There is alot of love, late nights and special people that put their hearts and souls into creating the magical 10 minute Miss Unkon show presentation. We will share more of that in blog posts to come.

It was an absolute joy to create the show this year with the team and share it with our audience. Some of these lovely people are the bloggers. We have a huge heart for them.
Got to see some of our favourite bloggers again this year, front row and looking amazing.
Here are a few snaps of our favourite Australian bloggers sitting front row before the show.
